The Effects of Mentorship Education Using 3D Design Software on Career Maturity and Digital Literacy for Elementary Science Gifted Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of a mentorship education program using 3D Design Software on career maturity and digital literacy of elementary science gifted students. The subjects of this study were 68 sixth-grade elementary science gifted students enrolled in the university-affiliated science and gifted education institute, and by applying the ‘3D design software-based elementary advanced mentorship education program’ provided by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, an instrument of pre-post career maturity and digital literacy was introduced, and additional in-depth interviews related to private education were conducted. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was confirmed that career maturity of elementary science gifted students improved through private education, understood their own competencies and characteristics through interviews, and became more aware of their future career paths. Second, it was confirmed that digital literacy of elementary science gifted students who experienced private education using 3D design software improved. Digital competency improved through learning new software functions and self-directed problem-solving design activities. Third, as a result of in-depth interviews with students who participated in private education, it was confirmed that private education is effective in self-direction, inquiry competency, career awareness, digital competency, and self-efficacy. Based on this, the development of private education using various software for gifted elementary school students is required, and through this, it is expected to contribute to fostering human resources who have led the future and cultivated digital capabilities for the purpose of gifted education.
